Phengaris teleius

The Scarce Large Blue. This species is scarce and endangered through out its whole distribution area and has only one quite small population in The Netherlands. The reason that this species is so rare and endangered is because it needs both the Great Burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis) and the ant species Myrmica scabrinodis for its unique life cycle.

This individual was warming in the evening sun, and is part of the dutch population.
